Rovaniemi hosts Real Madrid Foundation camp

Young footballers will get a chance to know new football techniques this summer as the football club Rovaniemen Palloseura (RoPS) and the Santa Sport Olympic Training Centre will host the Real Madrid Foundation football camp in Rovaniemi on June 13 to 16.

The camp is expected to have the very best conditions as Santa Sport’s status as an Olympic Training Centre affords high-quality training programmes only. The four-day football camp will be conducted by the Spanish Real Madrid academy coaches.

“This is a unique opportunity for any football player. The coaches arriving this summer represent one of the leading sports organisations in the world,” said Ossi Koskela, the RoPS representative responsible for the camp, to the Daily Finland.

He said they are expecting about 200 children to take part in the camp and about 100 young footballers have already confirmed participation, adding, “The kids will get the experience of quality football coaching.”

Koskela is also of the view that every participant is absolutely sure to gain a new spark for everyday training.

Additionally, the Santa Sport environment is perfect for arranging such a camp. It has a compact field of artificial grass and a football hall, and the players can use the Santa Sport facilities for additional exercises.

“Now our young footballers will have an opportunity to see for themselves what kind of training is used in environments similar to Real Madrid,” Juuso Toivola, Sports Academy Coordinator of Santa Sport and Olympic Training Centre Rovaniemi, told the Daily Finland.

The child players here will see how things go in Spain, in addition to being introduced to the players of the international arena, said Toivola.

“Even the Real Madrid may find someone great among the Finnish children,” he added.

Toivola said the camp is aimed at boys and girls aged eight to 15. The camp’s daily programme includes two football exercises designed by the Real Madrid Foundation and, depending on the day’s stress level, either a skill or a maintenance exercise. Customised lunches are also included at the camp’s price for the athletes, and a Real Madrid jersey.

The camp starts on Tuesday June 13 at 09.00 and ends on Friday June 16 at 17.00. The price of participation in the camp is 299 euros.
