Real Madrid beat Valencia 2-0 on Saturday night to move into fifth place in the Liga Santander.

Although Madrid's win came with a certain amount of luck, as Valencia's Daniel Wass put them ahead by heading into his own goal, coach Santiago Solari will be pleased with a solid defensive display which limited Valencia's chances of getting level before Lucas Vazquez ensured the win with a goal seven minutes from time.

One of the main talking points of the game was Solari's decision to give another start to midfielder Marcos Llorente and to leave Isco out of his starting 11 for the seventh successive game, although the coach will no-doubt point to the fact that with Llorente in the side his team have not conceded a goal.

Getafe produced an impressive second half display to defeat Espanyol 3-0 thanks to goals from Jorge Molina, Jaime Mata and a long-range shot from Antunes, which took a deflection to leave Diego Lopez helpless.

Espanyol have now lost their last three games to slip down to sixth in the league table.

Elsewhere Leganes made it 2 wins in 2 games with an impressive 4-2 win away to Valladolid.

Leganes striker Guido Carrillo scored in the 66th and 75th minutes to assure the points for the Madrid based side.

Siovas had put Leganes ahead in the 11th minute and Oscar doubled their lead shortly before halftime.

Oscar got Valladolid back into the game early in the second half, but Carrillo's two goals assured the points would go back to Leganes to give the team a big lift away from the relegation zone, despite Enes Unal's late consolation for the home side.

Iago Aspas scored twice on Saturday lunchtime as Celta Vigo beat bottom of the table Huesca 2-0 to give new Celta coach Manuel Cardoso his first win in charge.

The round of games began on Friday night as Adrian Embarba's 53rd minute goal gave Rayo Vallecano their first home win of the campaign as they beat Eibar 1-0 in the Vallecas stadium.
