Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain revealed that Neymar returned to Brazil on Thursday to continue treatment on his fifth right metatarsal injury.

"Neymar will continue treatment in Brazil under the supervision of the Paris Saint-Germain medical department," the club said in a statement.

Neymar had sustained a recurrence of fifth right metatarsal injury in a French Cup match in January, thus being sidelined for 10 weeks. It means that he cannot recover in time for both legs of Champions League round of 16 against Premier League side Manchester United.

The club said that they had decided to send Neymar to Brazil for 10 days "as part of the treatment of the injury of his fifth right metatarsal".

Neymar left on Thursday accompanied by a medical team from the club to continue specific treatment, scheduled after the medical care he has already received in Paris and Barcelona since the end of January.

"Paris Saint-Germain again shows its full support for Neymar and the determination he has shown since the beginning of his recovery," read the statement.

PSG beat Manchester United 2-0 in the first leg. If they advance in Champions League, Neymar may make a return in April's quarterfinals.
