Man sentenced to 8 years for attacking Kvitova

The Regional Court in Brno of the Czech Republic Tuesday sentenced Radim Zondra to eight years in prison for attacking top world tennis player Petra Kvitova.

Zondra repeatedly pleaded not guilty at the court, saying he didn't attack Kvitova. But the judges said the crucial piece of evidence is the testimony of Kvitova, who previously recognized Zondra during a police lineup and also in a photograph. She said she mainly remembered his eyes.

In December 2016, Zondra entered the flat of Kvitova in south Moravia, under the false pretext of being a heating boiler inspector. He attacked Kvitova and seriously cut her left, playing hand.

After the attack, Kvitova underwent a demanding surgery of the tendons on all fingers and several nerves of her hand in a special institute of hand surgery and plastic surgery in the Czech Republic. She successfully returned to the tennis court later.

Kvitova, a double Wimbledon winner, did not attend today's court session, as she is currently playing in the Miami Open.
