The cruise ship company Tallink will run an experimental trip between Helsinki and Riga on Sunday, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

The company will introduce the summer route between Helsinki and Riga, if it finds it viable.

The ship is scheduled to leave Helsinki on Sunday afternoon and return after two days, said the report, adding that the ship will dock in Riga for eight hours.

The company will use ticket sales to determine whether Helsinki-Riga could become a viable summertime route, similar to cruises to and from the Swedish island of Visby, Tallink Marketing Chief Margus Hunt told Yle.

Hunt said requests from people led them to move for running the experimental trip. He, however, said the company has no plan to operate the cruise ship between Helsinki and Riga round the year.
