The government on Friday withdrew the restrictions recommended earlier on domestic leisure traveling, said an official press release.
The decision allows domestic travelling with immediate effect, “if the security instructions against COVID-19 are adhered to.”
“Reopening domestic tourism is a wise decision. As the minister responsible for tourism, I consider that it is important to get Finland’s tourism and economy back on track, putting safety ahead of course,” said Economic Affairs Minister Mika Lintilä, adding, “It is clear that the tourism sector has suffered from coronavirus, but this situation can be alleviated by means of domestic tourism. As the disease is not over yet, I appeal to both tourists and tourism entrepreneurs to do all they can for safe tourism.”
The government has published a set of new guidelines to ensure safe domestic travel. The travellers are advised to avoid all unnecessary social contacts and forbidden to travel with illness.
In addition, the Economic Affairs and Employment Ministry, together with representatives of Social Affairs and Health Ministry and tourism operators have compiled a set of national health, hygiene and security instructions for tourism companies and travellers.
The instructions take into account the guidance and recommendations of the Tourism and Transport package on gradual and coordinated opening of tourism published on 13 May by the commission concerned.
