Air traffic at Oulu Airport resumed on Tuesday after completion of a part of the ongoing renovation work, said a press release of Finavia, the company responsible for maintaining and developing the country’s airports and air navigation system.
The night-time restrictions, however, will continue until 13 August, affecting the first and last flight of the day.
The major phase of the traffic area repairs carried out at Oulu Airport during the summer has now been completed.
In spite of the large size of the site, the repairs have been carried out without problems and on schedule.
The renovation works will still affect the first (Oulu-Helsinki) and last (Helsinki-Oulu) flight of the day from August 1 to August 13 and the flights will be operated to and from Tornio Airport, the press release said.
Free bus transport to and from Oulu Airport is available for these flights and the transports could be booked using a form available at Finavia’s website.
“During the summer, the runway, taxiways and the apron at Oulu [airport] have been resurfaced. At the same time, the illumination system has been reformed and the taxiways upgraded in order to provide better facilities for wide-bodied planes. Finishing touches will take place during the first weeks of August, but traffic is not expected to be affected after 13 August,” said Oulu Airport Manager Liisa Sallinen.
The renovation work of the traffic areas in the airport constitutes Finavia’s largest single investment in regional airports in 2017.
Oulu Airport has the second-largest passenger volume in Finland, the press release mentioned.
