Interest in carsharing is gaining popularity in Espoo and there are already many companies offering shared cars in the city, said the City of Espoo in a press release on Wednesday.

Carsharing services are now available to a growing number of Espoo residents as operations have extended to cover a majority of Espoo districts. Shared cars allow people to give up own car or choose not to buy one in the first place.

In 2021, the Low-carbon Mobility in Transport Hubs project teamed up with Omago Oy to conduct a regional car experiment in four Espoo districts.

Regional cars refer to a carsharing service in which the car is returned to the same area where it was originally taken to use. Since the experiment, the carsharing service has been extended.

Omago carsharing is now available in Espoon keskus, Matinkylä, Southern and Northern Leppävaara, Tapiola, Northern Tapiola and Kilo.

At the moment, Omago Oy has 16 cars in use in the Espoo region with about 150 active users.
