Foreign tourist inflow triples in July but lower than pre-pandemic level

The number of overnight stays by foreign tourists was triple in July compared to the stipulated period of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.

The number, however, was 29 per cent lower than in July 2019.

The biggest groups of foreign visitors were from Sweden, Germany and the United States.

In total, 2.69 million overnight stays were recorded for resident tourists and 0.57 million overnight stays for non-resident tourists in July 2022.

The number of nights spent by resident tourists was 16 per cent lower than in July 2021.

The number of overnight stays by resident tourists was lower than in July 2021 in almost all regions.

The number of overnight stays by resident tourists was higher than one year earlier only in Uusimaa and Päijät-Häme.

The number of nights spent by resident tourists was nine per cent higher than in July 2019.

The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 61 per cent. The occupancy rate was on level with July 2021.

The average price of a hotel room was EUR 118, having been EUR 106 one year earlier. On average, hotel rooms were most expensive in South Savo, EUR 167, due to the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
