Snowfall is likely to delay flight operations at Helsinki Airport on Saturday, said Finavia, the company operates country’s airports on Friday, quoting weather forecast.
The authority asked the passengers to follow notifications of their own airlines.
Snowfall will be abundant especially in the early hours of the morning and in the afternoon, which may affect runway ploughing and aircraft deicing.
The possible snowfall during the stipulated period may compel the air navigation companies and its air traffic control to restrict the number of arrivals and departures for safety reasons.
This can have an effect on departing flights and baggage handling.
The ground handling companies and airlines at Helsinki Airport will do their best to assure that aircraft de-icing and baggage handling processes run as well as possible.
“Finavia’s goal is safe and smooth air traffic in all weather conditions. It is based on our winter maintenance and cooperation with air traffic control, airlines and ground handling companies,” said Jani Elasmaa, Finavia’s Vice President responsible for Helsinki Airport’s runway and apron operations.
