Number of passenger train trips rises but freight trips slides in Q3

A total of 20.6 million trips were made by rail in the third quarter of 2022, which is 36 % higher than the number in the third quarter of 2021, according to Statistics Finland.
The number, however, was 9 percent lower than the third quarter of 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic.
Freight transferred by rail in the third quarter of 2022 was 7,6 million tons, which was 24 % less than in the third quarter of 2021.
Tonnage decreased by 24 % from the same quarter of 2021.
