Heavy snowfall may affect flights at Helsinki, Turku, and Tampere Airports on Saturday and Sunday, said Finavia, the company operates country’s airports on Friday, quoting weather forecast.
“Together with key airport companies, we are prepared for difficult weather conditions. There may be delays if the runway capacity must be reduced due to challenging weather conditions or low visibility”, said Jani Elasmaa, Finavia’s Vice President responsible for Helsinki Airport’s runway and apron operations.
Heavy snowfall will bring wet snow, which can take more time to clear off runways, apron and airplane wings.
Snowfall is also forecast at other airports in Northern Europe resulting possible delays to arriving flights as well as departing flights at Helsinki Airport.
The authority asked the passengers to be prepared for delays during the weekend and to follow the instructions and information provided by their own airline in case of cancellations or longer delays.
The airlines will also be responding to enquiries about luggage.
