A total of 1.4 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in February 2023, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of passengers was 74 per cent higher than in the previous year, but still a quarter lower than in February 2019.

The number of passengers on domestic flights increased by 50 per cent and on international flights by 86 per cent compared to February 2022.

The number of passengers was 75 per cent of the level prior to the corona pandemic.

Seventy-two per cent of the passengers travelled on international flights and 28 per cent on domestic flights.

In February 2023, a total of 1.1 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and altogether 0,3 million passengers flew through other domestic airports.

Helsinki Airport accounted for 76 per cent of all passengers at domestic airports.

The number of passengers at Helsinki Airport was 28 per cent lower and the combined number of passengers at other domestic airports 17 per cent lower than in February 2019.

Compared to February 2022, the number of passengers was 80 per cent higher at Helsinki Airport and 58 per cent higher at other domestic airports.

The exceptionally high relative growth in the number of passengers compared to last year is caused by the collapse of air traffic due to the corona pandemic starting from spring 2020. The year 2019 is used in the statistics as the comparison year to describe the number of air passengers before the pandemic.

In February, 72 per cent of the air passengers travelled on international flights and 28 per cent on domestic flights. The total number of passengers decreased from January, but domestic flights had 25,000 more passengers than in the previous month. The share of passengers on international flights was 81 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 39 per cent in total at other domestic airports.

Air freight and mail transport totalled 12,745 tonnes in February 2023. In all, 99,6 per cent of the tonnes were transported through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether 5,346 tonnes (42%) of the transported volume of goods were incoming and 7,398 tonnes (58%) were outgoing.
