Foreign tourist inflow ups in Feb but lower than pre-pandemic level

The number of nights spent by tourists was 25 per cent higher in February 2023 than one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

A total of 1.20 million overnight stays were recorded for resident tourists, which is 17 per cent more than in February 2022.

For non-resident tourists, 0.56 million overnight stays were recorded, which is 46 per cent more than one year earlier.

The number of nights spent by foreigners was eight per cent lower than in February 2020 before the pandemic.

The number of recorded nights spent by resident tourists was highest in Uusimaa and that of nights spent by non-resident tourists in Lapland.

More than 70 per cent of overnight stays in Lapland were by non-resident tourists.

The highest numbers of foreign visitors came from France, Germany and the Netherlands.

The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 52 per cent. Compared to February 2022, the occupancy rate grew by 12 percentage points.

The average price of a hotel room was EUR 126, having been EUR 117 one year earlier.

The price of a hotel room was highest in Lapland, EUR 187.
