Foreign tourist inflow ups in March but lower than pre-pandemic level

The number of nights spent by foreign tourists was 0.48 million in March this year, which is 27 per cent more than one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.
The number of nights spent by foreign tourists, however, was 15 per cent lower than in March 2019 before the pandemic.
The number of nights spent by resident and foreign tourists at accommodation establishments in Finland was seven per cent higher in March 2023 than one year earlier.
A total of 1.41 million overnight stays were recorded for resident tourists, which is two per cent more than in March 2022.
The number of overnight stays at accommodation establishments increased most in Uusimaa, where overnight stays grew by nearly one fifth from March 2022.
The second most overnight stays were recorded in Lapland, where seven per cent more overnight stays were recorded than one year earlier.
The highest numbers of foreign visitors came from Germany, France and the Netherlands.
The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 53 per cent. Compared to March 2022, the occupancy rate grew by five percentage points.
The average price of a hotel room was EUR 121, having been EUR 115 one year earlier. The price of a hotel room was highest in Lapland, EUR 167.
