Foreign tourist inflow ups in April but lower than pre-pandemic level

A total of 1.53 million overnight stays were recorded in April 2023, of which 1.27 million were overnight stays by resident tourists, according to Statistics Finland.
The total number of overnight stays fell by four per cent from the year before.
The number of overnight stays by resident tourists decreased by eight per cent from April 2022 and that of overnight stays by foreign tourists grew by 20 per cent.
However, the number of nights spent by foreigners was 27 per cent lower than in April 2019 before the pandemic.
The number of nights spent by resident tourists in April 2023 was lower in nearly all regions than twelve months earlier.
The number of nights spent by foreign tourists went up in several regions.
The majority of overnight stays by non-resident tourists were recorded in Uusimaa.
Most of the foreign visitors came from Sweden, Germany and the United States.
The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 45 per cent, which was almost on level with April 2022.
The average price of a hotel room was EUR 111, having been EUR 107 one year earlier.
The most expensive hotel rooms were in Lapland and their average price was EUR 129.
