The upcoming visit of US President Joe Biden and the US–Nordic Summit scheduled to be held on July 13 will affect the public transport in the capital region, said the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (Helsingin seudun liikenne – HSL).
The HSL urged the city commuters to be prepared for the diversion routes, service disruptions and delays.
The effects will particularly impact bus and tram services in the center of Helsinki as well as bus services that use the access roads to Helsinki.
In addition, there will be changes to Suomenlinna ferry services. Some city bike stations will be closed in the city center.
The metro and commuter trains, however, will run as usual.
Meanwhile, country´s airports operator Finavia said that high-level security and special arrangements will be taken at Helsinki Airport due to the US President´s visit and US-Nordic Summit in Helsinki.
“Our goal is that the airport offers first-class service during the visit and helps promote a positive image of Finland. Arrangements at and around the airport are organised in cooperation with several parties. There will be special arrangements to ensure that the delegations’ wishes for the airport are met and, at the same time, that other air traffic can continue operating normally,” said Samuli Juntunen, Head of Security of Finavia, Helsinki Airport.
Photography and viewing opportunities from the airport's scenic terrace and from the spotting places outside the indoor car parks and field fences will probably be limited.
The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom is likely to restrict aviation and drone piloting, said Finavia in a press release.
President Sauli Niinistö will host United States President Joe Biden's visit to Finland and the US-Nordic Leaders’ Summit in Helsinki.
