VR to cut 80 jobs

National railway operator VR decided to start negotiation talks to reduce about 80 employees, said the VR in a press release on Tuesday.

The company said that the uncertain economic situation prompted the authority to take the re-structuring measures.

The negotiation will affect about 500 employees, but it would not hamper the locomotive drivers or crew members.

"Our operating environment has been challenging for a long time. due to the pandemic and the end of Eastern traffic. In order to respond to the changed circumstances, we need measures to ensure our competitiveness and investment ability,” said VR Chief Executive Officer Elisa Markula.
