The national railway operator VR Group is planning to improve the services for persons with disabilities before the end of the year.
Commuter services for persons with disabilities will be supplemented starting Monday, said VR in an official press release.
The improvements will begin with new ramp services whereby the train staff can be ordered to help with lifting of the passengers within only two hours of notification. Previously, the notification had to be given 48 hours in advance.
Long distance train services will be improved by shortened waiting period for assistance services and clearer and stickier markings for wheelchair spots. Starting in the New Year, assistance services can be ordered 36 hours in advance down from 48 hours.
The location of Helsinki assistance point will also be improved. The new assistance base will be located at the starting point of track 11.
