National railway operator VR cancelled six long-distance train services on Saturday due to the ongoing severe cold weather across the country, VR sources said.

Several long-distance trans services were also delayed from 15 minutes to 50 minutes on Saturday due to the cold weather, according to the VR website.

According to VR, the cold weather caused damage to the air compressors systems and disrupted the automatic operation of many mechanical devices. For example, the operation of doors and connecting the trains are being disrupted due to the cold weather

The trans services have been facing problems from the beginning of the year due to the cold weather.

Earlier the rail communication faced disruption from January 1 and again from January 4.

The ongoing severe cold wave continued across the country from the new year eve.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) recorded season highest minus 42.7 degrees Celsius temperature at Enontekiö airport on January 4.
