Three train services were cancelled and about a dozen were delayed on Monday due to technical glitches, said the national railway operator VR.

In addition to technical glitch, shortage of staff and waiting for connecting service also caused delays to some long- distance trains.

The VR had to cancel the three trains scheduled to ply in between Joensuu and Nurmes on Monday due to technical fault and the trains were replaced by bus services.

The authority also announced to cancel another train scheduled for Tuesday on the same route due to technical fault.

Meanwhile, about a dozen of long-distance trains services were delayed from 15 minutes to 90 minutes on Monday due to various reasons.

The delays took place on Seinäjoki – Vaasa, Helsinki – Oulu, Helsinki – Kemijärvi, Tampere – Helsinki, Vaasa – Helsinki and Helsinki - Rovaniemi routes.

Earlier on January 20, VR cancelled six long-distance train services due to severe cold weather.
