Foreign tourist inflow rises by 6% in Dec

A total of 1.81 million overnight stays were recorded at accommodation establishments in Finland in December 2023, which is on level with the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of nights spent by resident tourists was 1.03 million, which was four percent lower compared to the stipulated period of the previous year.

But the number of nights spent by foreign tourists in December 2023 was 0.78 million, which was six per cent higher than the number in Decemberv 2022.

In December 2023, overnight stays in Lapland numbered 0.57 million in total, of which 84 per cent were by foreign tourists. The number was a new one-month record for overnight stays by foreign tourists in Lapland.

The previous record from December 2022 was exceeded by seven per cent.

The highest numbers of foreign visitors came from Britain, France and Spain.

In Lapland, the hotel room occupancy rate was 77 per cent and in the whole country 47 per cent.

On average, hotel rooms were most expensive in Lapland, EUR 243, which is EUR 26 higher than one year previously. The average price of a hotel room was EUR 141 in the whole country.
