Finnish airports see higher passengers in August

A total of 1.7 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in August 2024 and the number is 10 per cent higher compared to the stipulated month in 2023, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of passengers on both domestic and international flights increased from the previous year.

In August 2024, Helsinki Airport accounted for 90 per cent of all passengers at domestic airports.

The share of international flights of all air traffic decreased but was still 86 per cent.

During January to August in 2024, the volumes of both air passengers and freight and mail transport were higher than in the same period in 2023.

In August 2024, a total of 1.5 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and altogether 170,000 passengers flew through other domestic airports.

Eighty-six per cent of the air traffic passengers travelled on international flights and 14 per cent on domestic flights in August 2024.

The share of passengers on international flights was 92 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 34 per cent in total at other domestic airports.

Of all passengers, 96 per cent travelled on scheduled flights.

During January to August in 2024, a total of 13 million passengers flew through Finnish airports, which was 5 per cent more than in the same period in 2023.

In 2024, five million passengers flew through Finnish airports during June to August, which was 9 per cent more than in the summer of 2023.
