Finns make more leisure trips in September

Finnish people made more leisure trips in September this year compared to the stipulated moth of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.

About 0.6 million leisure trips abroad were made in September, which is a fifth more than in the corresponding period of the year before.

The number of domestic leisure trips with overnight stay also grew by good one tenth and was roughly 2.0 million in September.

Altogether 0.5 million leisure trips abroad with overnight stay in the destination country were made, which is one fifth more than a year earlier. One in four of these trips were package tours.

Altogether, 50 per cent more overnight stays were recorded for leisure trips abroad than in September 2023, which was visible as an extension of the average duration of trips by two nights.

The growth in the number of domestic leisure trips was due to an increase in trips with free accommodation. The number of trips grew by one fifth and was around 1.5 million in September 2024.

Domestic business trips numbered around 0.2 million, down by a quarter from the previous year.
