Delays, congestion at Rovaniemi airport

More than a dozen departing flights were on Saturday delayed in Rovaniemi as hundreds of tourists headed back home, reported local media.

Passengers had to queue for check-in outside the airport, said the Iltalehti report. The queue was hundreds of metres long around 1 p.m. The airport managing company Finavia had briefed in the evening that the situation was still being resolved.

The evening flights from Rovaniemi were scheduled to depart after ten o'clock in the evening on Saturday.

According to Finavia, check-in had also been slowed down due to a case of illness.

There has been a bottleneck at check-in. Not all passengers have been accommodated in the departure hall where check-in takes place.

The slowdown in check-in has caused not only queues but also delayed flights. The situation is not helped by the fact that Saturday is the busiest day of the year at Rovaniemi Airport due to Christmas return traffic.

There were around 50 flights in total. They fly to different parts of Europe, including Spain, Germany, France and Italy.
