Finnish airports see higher passengers but lower cargos in Jan

A total of 1.6 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in January 2025, according to Statistics Finland.

The total number of passengers increased by 9 per cent in January this year compared to the number in the stipulated month of the previous year.

In January 2025, Helsinki Airport accounted for 73 per cent of all air traffic passengers at domestic airports.

Out of the total passengers, 77 per cent travelled on international flights.

A total of 1.2 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and altogether 420,000 passengers flew through other domestic airports.

Compared to January 2024, the total number of passengers was 8 per cent higher at Helsinki Airport and 15 per cent higher at other domestic airports.

Seventy-seven per cent of the air traffic passengers travelled on international flights and 23 per cent on domestic flights in January 2025.

The share of passengers on international flights was 84 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 55 per cent in total at other domestic airports. Of all passengers, 94 per cent travelled on scheduled flights.

The volume of freight and mail transport decreased in January 2025 from January 2024.

The Statistics Finland, however, did not mention how much freight and mail was decreased.

In January 2025, air freight and mail transport totalled 13,392 tonnes. In all, 99 per cent of the tonnes were transported through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent in traffic between Finland and foreign countries.

Altogether 6,226 tonnes (46 %) of the transported volume of goods were incoming and 7,166 tonnes (54 %) were outgoing.
