The safari company Villi Pohjola Oy is set to establish 10 luxury huts in Rovaniemi this year.
The first of the wooden-panorama design huts constructed by the Oulu-based Pineart Production will be brought to the Arctic Circle at the end of summer, said Annekreet Heinloo, Creative Director of Villi Pohjola.
The idea of ready-made portable accommodations has been with the company since Villi Pohjola executed a winterish Lapland concept a few years ago at the centre of Helsinki during summer. This raised the question whether the accommodations could be transferred based on season and needs.
“The main season of Arctic Circle Wilderness Lodge in Vaattungi is winter and, for instance, the hottest season of Oulu’s archipelago falls during summer. The accommodations will be in the Arctic Circle during winter and during summer they can be transferred,” Annekreet Heinloo told Daily Finland.
The investment in the accommodations, according to the Creative Director, is moderate, though she did not offer an estimate.
It is also to be tested whether a similar service could be offered elsewhere in the country and be exported abroad.
The huts 16.5 square meters each are made of Lappish wood by hand and one of the walls is completely replaced by a window.
Although it is possible to move and modify the huts, it is not a case of glamping.
The huts are connected to water supply and sewerage system and are equipped with indoor toilets, showers and electricity. For this reason, they also need construction permits.
"We have a very nice space for the accommodations in Arctic Circle Wilderness Lodge at Vaattungi. We have 14 hectares of land there,” said Annekreet Heinloo, adding the accommodation support services are already in place in the location. Customers use, for instance, Villi Pohjola suana and restaurant.
She believes that additional movable accommodations in the Arctic Circle will support Arctic Circle Hiking Area.
A completely ecological version of the accommodations can be developed, heated with wood and fitted with toilets which are biological. The huts can be transferred, for instance, by helicopters to the place where a customer wishes.
