VR earns operating profit EUR 17.8m in Q1

The national railway operator VR group´s net sales in January to March this year was EUR 290.9 million, which represents a decrease of 0.9 per cent, said a press release.

The Group's operating profit for the period was EUR 17.8 million, or 6.1 per cent of net sales.

The total number of journeys in passenger services was 32.3 million. Travel by train grew by 2.5 per cent, with a total of 22.2 million journeys made. In road transport, the number of journeys decreased by 13.2 per cent, with a total of 10.1 million journeys made.

VR Transpoint’s transport volumes remained at the level of the previous year, 10.9 million tonnes.

“The start of the year has remained at the level of the previous year, both in terms of profit and net sales. We must pick up speed towards the end of the year in order to keep on the growth track after a year of strong growth. We are pleased that travel by train continued to grow in popularity when measured with the number of journeys. The company will continue actions to improve both customer satisfaction and operative efficiency,” said President and CEO of VR Rolf Jansson.
