The renovation of the pavement on runway 3 at Helsinki Airport will continue from August 20 to August 27, which will affect the direction of aircraft noise as well as flight schedules.

The runway will be closed during the renovation work, while two other runways will remain in use, said a press release issued by the country’s airport operator Finavia.

The challenging nature of Finnish weather and an increased in air traffic have worn out the runway surface demanding renovation of the pavement on runway 3 before winter.

The direction of aircraft noise will change and planes will be spotted in areas where they are not usually seen.

Due to the lowered runway capacity, air traffic needs to be controlled. Finavia asked passengers to take note that this may result in delays, especially during the busiest morning and afternoon hours.

In case of bad weather conditions, such as heavy rain, the renovations may take longer than initially planned, the press release added.
