The Latvian airline Air Baltic decided to increase the number of flights in Turku-Riga route for the spring and summer season beginning in march 2019, said a press release issued by Finavia, the company operates airports I Finland.
The new connection brings a needed addition for the morning and evening flights four days a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
“The new connections prove that Turku attracts as a destination. Airlines have noticed the increase in the use of the airport, and hence want to increase their service level”, said Minna Arve, mayor of the city of Turku.
Riga is an important transfer airport, through which one can reach many destinations. Consequently the new connection makes it a lot easier to travel to European metropoles such as London, Milan, Berlin and Brussels.
“This improves accessibility to and from Turku, while the new flights serve both business and leisure travellers. We are happy to deepen cooperation with Air Baltic”, said Jani Jolkkonen, Senior Vice-President of Airport Network of Finavia.
In addition to Helsinki and Riga, direct flights from Turku Airport include Mariehamn, Stockholm and Gdansk. Wizz Air announced last week that they will begin operating a direct route from Turku to Kaunas, the press release added.
