VR to cease cash payment for long-distance trains

National railway operator VR has announced that starting on 1st of September 2019, long-distance train tickets can be purchased only with payment cards from train conductors and railbus vending machines.

Cash purchases on long-distance trains have decreased over the past few years, said VR in an official press release.

More than 80% of train tickets are already purchased through self-service channels such as vr.fi, our mobile app or a vending machine.

In addition, tickets can be purchased from VR’s service points at train stations and from VR’s customer service and from R-kioski shops and Matkahuolto.
