Cyanobacteria occurrence is still going on in the Finnish sea area while in lakes fewer cyanobacteria was observed than is typical for this time of summer, according to the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).
Observations reveal a large surface cyanobacteria bloom in the Baltic Proper that extends north close to Finnish coastal areas.
However, in the coastal Finnish sea area abundant cyanobacteria blooms have not been observed.
In the southern part of the Bothnian Sea cyanobacteria blooms have been reported. In lakes, cyanobacteria have been observed less than what is typical for this time of summer.
If the weather warms and there are calm weather periods, surface blooms of cyanobacteria may still increase in lakes.
