Cold wave continues in north, snowfall disrupts Helsinki life

Severe cold wave continued in the northern part of the country while heavy snowfall disrupted public transport in the capital city region on Wednesday.
The snowfall disrupted bus and tram services in Helsinki and in most cases the services were delayed, said the City of Helsinki in a press release.
The authorities urged people to start journey keeping extra time in hand and, if possible, work from home.
Meanwhile, severe cold wave continued in Lapland and the temperature dropped to close to minus 40 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
The lowest temperature on Wednesday was recorded minus 39.4 degrees Celsius at Kittilä Airport while minus 37.6 degrees Celsius was recorded at Muonio, and minus 37.4 degrees at Enontekiö, reported the Finnish language newspaper Lapin Kansa, quoting the Met office.
