Heavy snowfall is likely to delay flight operations at Helsinki Airport on Thursday and Friday, said Finavia, the company operates country’s airports on Wednesday, quoting weather forecast.
According to the weather forecasts, strong wind and snowfall for the two stipulated days may compel the air navigation company Finntraffic and its air traffic control to restrict the number of arrivals and departures for safety reasons.
Heavy snowfall often slows down unloading the baggage from the planes which affects the waiting time at baggage reclaim.
Also, the de-icing of the planes takes longer. The ground handling companies and airlines at Helsinki Airport will do their best to guarantee as punctual operations as possible, said Finavia in a press release.
The authority asked the passengers to prepare at least for some delays and to follow notifications of their own airlines.
