The poor cyanobacterial situation in sea areas continues, said the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) in a press release on Thursday.

There are now cyanobacterial occurrences in all sea areas. Abundant cyanobacteria have been observed especially in the coastal areas of the Archipelago Sea and the Gulf of Finland.

The situation in lakes is still better than usual, but observations have been made at more observation sites than last week.

The national cyanobacterial monitoring is carried out as part of the monitoring of the state of the environment in cooperation with the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres), municipal environmental and health authorities and SYKE.

Finnish Rotary Clubs are also actively involved in nationwide cyanobacterial monitoring.
