Mercury drops to record - 42.7 °C at Enontekiö

The ongoing severe cold wave continued across the country and the temperature fell further in the Finnish Lapland on Thursday morning.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) recorded season highest minus 42.7 degrees Celsius temperature at Enontekiö airport at 11:14 am.
According to the FMI, temperatures below minus 42 degrees Celsius were recorded only three times earlier during this century.
The temperature dropped significantly from the new year eve and continued all over the country disrupting normal activities and rail communication.
The forecast, however, said that the temperature likely to increase to milder at the weekend.
