Six people were killed during protests in Khartoum on Saturday and Sunday, announced Sudan's Interior Minister Bushara Gumaa Aro on Monday.

The minister made the announcement in a briefing to the Sudanese parliament.

"Fifteen civilians and 42 from the security forces were injured during the protests while 2,496 have been arrested," he said.

The Sudanese capital on Saturday and Sunday saw huge protests that ended with open sit-in before the Sudanese army general headquarters.

Since Dec. 19, Sudan has been witnessing popular protests over the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities.
