Chicago reports 300th homicide

Chicago, the third largest U.S. city, reached its 300th homicide milestone early Monday morning, two days later than in last year.
Data collected by the Chicago Tribune show that over the Father's Day weekend, 11 people were killed and at least 50 others were shot and wounded across the city of Chicago. The figures were 13 killed and 46 shot over the Father's Day weekend last year.
Shootings reported in Chicago so far this year are at 1,609 people, as against 1,789 by the same time last year.
Data show that Chicago recorded its 300th homicide on Aug. 17 in 2015, and on Sept. 1 in 2013.
In Chicago, a city notorious for gun violence, gun violence has reached the levels not seen in two decades, the Chicago Tribune reported.
As of early Monday, the Chicago Police Department had logged 296 homicides for the year.
