One person was killed in a shooting incident on a bus platform Thursday afternoon in Van Nuys, a neighborhood of Los Angeles located 30 kilometers west of LA downtown, spurring an intense search for the shooter in the area.
Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison was quoted by the local KTLA 5 news channel as saying that the fatal shooting took place about local time 12:50 p.m. and the suspect was described by witnesses as a white or Hispanic man.
The incident took place amid a massive manhunt for a 26-year-old gunman who killed three people and wounded two others in two separate shootings Thursday morning in the San Fernando Valley, where Van Nuys is the most populous neighborhood.
So far LAPD did not confirm whether the Van Nuys shooting was linked to the other incidents.
"Gerry Dean Zaragoza, a 26 yr old Hispanic, is wanted for a double homicide shooting that occurred this morning in Canoga Park, and is also suspected in another double victim shooting in North Hollywood. Do not approach. He's considered ARMED & DANGEROUS. If seen call 911." the LAPD tweeted Thursday morning.
The latest twitter from LAPD which posted about 1:30 p.m. said LAPD detectives are following several leads in the search for Zaragoza, whose picture shows he is a Hispanic young man.
