Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze on Monday announced his resignation in a Facebook statement.
Bakhtadze, who has held the post since June 2018, said he decided to resign because he fulfilled the mission of creating a strategic development framework for the country, which was the main purpose of his appointment as the prime minister.
Meanwhile, he stressed that he will "remain a member of the ruling party and a loyal soldier of the country."
According to Gia Volski, the leader of the parliamentary majority, the political board of the ruling Georgian Dream party will nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister on Tuesday.
Under the Georgian Constitution, the ruling Georgian Dream party will have to nominate a new prime minister within seven days, who will then name cabinet members that need to secure 76 votes among parliament members for approval.
