2,927 people living with HIV/AIDS in Oman

Recent official statistics in Oman confirmed that the number of cases of HIV/AIDS in Oman reached 2,927 till the end of last year.
According to the official statistics released on Wednesday by the National Center for Statistics and Information, the number increased by 5.2 percent compared to the number recorded till the end of 2017.
As per the statistics, based on the age groups, the category between 15 and 24 years old has the highest rate of AIDS infection with 1,866 cases, followed by the category between 5 and 14 years old with 543 cases.
The number of people infected with the disease in the age group from 50 years old and above is 329, while the number of infected people between 25 to 49 years old is 120. The age group between zero to four years old recorded the lowest rate of infection with 69 cases.
The latest population statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information reported that the population of Oman till mid-2018 amounted to about 4.6 million people, and that 57.5 percent of them are Omani while the rest of them are expatriates.
