Gunmen kill 2 college students in India's Chandigarh

Two college students were shot dead inside their rented accommodation in northern India city of Chandigarh, police said Thursday.

The victims Ajay and Vineet, both in their early twenties, were attacked on Wednesday night.

"Last night we are being told some men came to the rented accommodation of these students at sector 15 and fired upon them indiscriminately," a police official said. "Though they were rushed to a hospital immediately but doctors there declared them brought dead."

According to the police, three people were present inside the room, however, the third survived the attack.

Vineet was pursuing his Bachelor's degree at Government College for Men, and Ajay was doing Master's at Sanatan Dharma College.

Ajay was from Jind district, while Vineet belonged to Gohana of Sonipat district in Haryana. The duo had shifted to the accommodation two days back and both were associated with Hindustan Student Association (HSA), locals said.

Police have registered a case and ordered an investigation into the killings.
