Daily railway trips down amid epidemic control in China

China saw its railway passenger trips slump 62.2 percent to 3.46 million on Monday, the third day of the lunar new year, from the same day last year following the Chinese lunar calendar, official data showed Tuesday.
The railway sector has been cutting passenger train services to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, according to the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.
The number of passengers on Tuesday is expected to be 3.06 million, down 69.5 percent from the same day last year on the Chinese lunar calendar, according to the railway operator.
China's railway network had sent 665 tonnes of materials necessary for the fight against the epidemic by 6 p.m. Monday, the group said.
