Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg announced here on Wednesday that North Macedonia will soon become a NATO member.
"In a few weeks, North Macedonia will become the 30th member, indicating that our doors are open," Stoltenberg said at a news conference after meeting with Croatian President Zoran Milanovic.
North Macedonia was invited to become NATO member in July 2018 after resolving the long-standing name issue with Greece. The NATO Accession Protocol was signed in February 2019.
Stoltenberg is in Zagreb to attend a meeting of EU defense ministers this week on the situation in Syria and on the Greek-Turkish border.
The NATO chief said that the situation in Syria and at the Turkish-Greek border is so serious that no institution alone can come to a solution.
