The death toll from severe weather including strong tornadoes in the U.S. state of Mississippi has climbed to 11, the state emergency authority said on Monday.

In a damage report, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said the fatalities were reported in six counties along with multiple injuries throughout the state.

There are currently more than 72,000 without power in the state, according to the agency, which has received damage reports from 18 counties.

Strong tornadoes and other severe weather hit the state on Sunday, damaging homes and roads, toppling power poles and trees, while displacing residents.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed a state of emergency on Sunday in response to the severe weather outbreak.
