A Palestinian young man was killed and another injured early Wednesday after Israeli tanks, stationed on the borders with eastern Rafah town in southern Gaza Strip, fired on them, medics said.

The two victims were brought to Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital in the town, Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman for the Gaza health authority, told reporters via text message.

Witnesses said the two young men approached the borderline area between the eastern part of the town and Israel, and tried to cross the fence to get into the Israeli side.

The incident coincided with a military training of the Israeli army in the area.

There is no immediate comment from the Israeli army.
