Shooting leaves one dead, six wounded in Chicago

Gunmen opened fire on people standing outside a housing complex in Chicago in northern U.S., killing one and wounding six others, local police said on Wednesday.

The shooting took place late Tuesday in Bronzeville neighborhood, some nine kilometers south of the city center.

Alfred Mitchell, 28, was hit in the back and died at hospital. Six other wounded people were being treated at hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Five of them are women.

Local police are investigating the shooting, with no arrest made yet.

Being the third largest city in the United States, Chicago is notorious for its violence. In 2016, police recorded 762 murders, 3,550 shooting incidents and 4,331 shooting victims.
