The death toll rose to 11 in the five-storey building collapse at Mahad, 170 km from Mumbai after more people trapped under the debris were found dead on Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

The building with 47 flats collapsed on Monday evening and several people were trapped. Of the 119 people who were in the building, 68 people managed to escape as the beleaguered building began to shake and could fall.

As per the district officials, there are still around 10 or more people believed to be below the debris and around 25 injured people have been admitted to the hospital.

Three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are at the site along with sniffer canines specialized in detecting persons alive, jointly doing the rescue operations along with local administration and fire-brigade.

The district police has registered a case against five persons involved in the development of the 10-year old building that collapsed, including the developer, the contractors, engineer, architect and the building consultant.
