1,000 charged for violation of curfew in Myanmar in 2 days

A total of 971 people were charged in two days for violation of the curfew imposed in townships of Myanmar's Yangon region, reported Xinhua, quoting state-run media on Saturday.

Legal action was taken against 618 males and 29 females for curfew breach under the Penal Code.

As many as 647 people were arrested along with 111 vehicles and 18 motorbikes on Sept. 2 while 324 people were captured along with 73 vehicles and 24 motorbikes on Sept. 3, Yangon Region Police Force was quoted as saying.

The national-level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19 imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in some regions and states including Yangon region to curb the spread of COVID-19.

At present, seven townships in Yangon region are under the stay-at-home order as those townships have recently seen increasing numbers of COVID-19 infection cases.

The tally of infections has risen to 1,216 as of Saturday morning, according to the latest figures from the Health and Sports Ministry.
