At least one person was killed and three others were injured after an explosion in a suburb of the Egyptian capital of Cairo today interestingly on the same day as ousted former president Hosni Mubarak was released from prison.

The incident in Maadi occurred around the same time Mubarak left Maadi Military Hospital, where he had been detained after six years behind bars, reports the Independent.

Security services said that the cause of the blast was not immediately known. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Earlier on March 2, Egypt's top appeals court acquitted Mubarak, 88, of involvement in the killing of protesters during the 2011 revolt that ended his 30-year rule.
